Folly Farm – So much more than your average meeting and event venue

With corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability playing an increasing part in many companies’ policies, it is only natural that these priorities have also found their way into meeting places and corporate events venues.

As those of you who’ve visited us before will know, Folly Farm is so much more than your average meeting and event venue. Folly Farm promotes better understanding of biodiversity and sustainable development, engaging with the business community, school children and the general public, through education days, meetings and events.

Environmentally-sensitive features
Folly Farm’s environmentally-sensitive features include biomass heating and solar energy, rainwater harvesting, a willow-based sewage treatment system and the first-known use of bricks made entirely from Bristol clays. All paper products are 100% recycled (including the conference pads), and all cleaning products are eco-friendly. Best of all, every penny of profit goes directly to the Avon Wildlife Trust to protect local wildlife.

Employee engagement activities with Avon Wildlife Trust
As well as providing a green venue for business meetings, Folly Farm offers delegates the chance to really connect with nature by taking part in employee engagement activities with Avon Wildlife Trust. These rewarding and meaningful conservation activities are not only fantastic team building events, but they support the management of the nature reserve whilst improving staff well-being and team cohesion.

Tasks vary depending on the time of year, but can include coppicing, charcoal making, tree planting and path maintenance. There’s also various other team building and outdoor pursuit options available, from ‘Mission Impossible’ challenges, archery and bushcraft to sheep herding, mindfulness and cookery ‘bake-offs’.

Connect with the natural world
Folly Farm offers businesses the unique opportunity to connect with the natural world – we know that delegates just feel better when the air is cleaner, the light is natural and the food is either grown on-site or locally sourced. And we lead the way when it comes to event venue sustainability…

A relaxed and informal setting
A Green Tourism accredited sustainable venue comprising a restored 18th century farmhouse surrounded by wildflower meadows and ancient woodlands, Folly Farm offers a relaxed and informal setting for meetings, events, training days and team building.

An historic landscape dating back to the 17th century
Owned and managed by Avon Wildlife Trust, the 250-acre nature reserve is one of the largest examples in this country of a ferme ornée (an ornamental farm) with an historic landscape dating back to the 17th century developed on a medieval deer park, and a range of farm buildings dating from the late 18th to early 20th century. Elements of the ferme ornée are still visible today, and many of the features have now been restored.

A designated Site of Special Scientific Interest
Part of the reserve has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) because it is such a good example of traditionally managed, unimproved neutral grassland of a type now rare in Britain. The reserve also contains areas of rare ancient woodland, which are also designated as an SSSI.
